Biography


She is a Film star, Theatre and TV Actress, producer and a singer/songwriter, that has contributed to the entertainment industry in over 80 films, 10 telenovelas, multiple plays, 15 movies of the week and mini series and in over 100 episodes of television on HBO, Hulu, Netflix, Showtime, NBC, ABC, CBS, Hallmark and Lifetime to name a few. She opened the doors to today's latina stars.


She made her HOLLYWOOD film debut in 1984, in Moscow on the Hudson withRobin Williams, And also starred in movies like Extreme Prejudice with Nick Nolte, The Running Man with Arnold Scharzenegger, Predator 2 with Danny GLover, The House of the Spirits with Glen Close, Meryl Streep, Vampire's Kiss with Nicolas Cage, Colors with Robert Duval and Sean Penn, Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem", amongst many others.


She was the first Latin-born actress to star on BROADWAY in "Kiss of the Spider Woman". Alonso was cast as Eva Longoria's mother on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and guest starred in the Spanish version for UNIVISION, "Amas de Casa Desesperadas".

In 2019 she worked on three Hollywood productions, "Higher Grounds", "SallyWood" and "Take me to Tarzana". The NETFLIX series "The I-Land" for NETFLIX and a guest appearance in

“Into the Dark" for HULU.


An accomplished singer she has had

Multiple number one albums, platinum and gold record sales contributed to three American Grammy nominations.

Her first gold album and number one song in the charts was "Love Maniac" back in Venezuela in 1979,

after that followed her second number one with "The Witch" and soon after "Dangerous Rhythm", also in Venezuela.Right away after she moved to Los Angeles A&M records signed her, first CD (album back then) was called "Maria Conchita" and "Acariciame" was her first single and first international number one followed by "Noche de Copas" (with Herb Alpert playing the trumpet), "La Loca", "O Ella O Yo"; many #1's followed after.


International producer/songwriter Giorgio Moroder who produced and wrote the soundtrack for "Scarface", asked her to write the lyrics and perform,.her song was "Vamos a Bailar".


As her first three albums came out only in Venezuela, it was her fourth "Maria Conchita", with A&M, that made her an international singing star and gave her her first GRAMMY nomination as "Best Latin Artist" Then came "Best Latin Performance" for her single "Otra Mentira Mas", and Best Latin Pop Album for "Imaginame".

In 2020 she launched her latest single "Llename de ti" (Fill me up with love) found in Spotify and all platforms. Her video can be seen in her YouTube channel Maria Conchita Alonso Official.


Her accomplished career has also seen her have many world wide nominations and awards as a model, singer and actress, Alonso was named "Hispanic Woman of the Year" by the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, received a Bravo Award for Outstanding Performance by an Individual or Act in a Variety/Musical,

And one of her nominations was as Best Actress at the INDEPENDENT SPIRIT Awards for the film CAUGHT.


In yet another unprecedented accomplishment in a lifetime full of them, Maria Conchita became the first Latina to receive The Keys to the City of Las Vegas, where she has performed a few times.


Maria Conchita hosted and produced "Picante", a weekly prime time Spanish-language variety Show in Mexico, a daily talk show for TELEMUNDO "Al Dia con Maria Conchita" and "Viva Hollywood" for VH1. As a Speaker her topics are as an animal and political activist (Venezuela/Cuba) and her fight against anorexia and bulimia.


She stopped her career for many years to concentrate on her political activism for Venezuela, but around 2014 she started touring once again Latin American and Mexico.
